A Narrative of Irony and Social Reflection

Andrea Sangalli’s works are renowned for their ability to blend visual immediacy with profound meaning, striking a delicate balance between graphic storytelling and conceptual depth. Born in Vaprio d’Adda (MI) in 1974, Sangalli has developed a distinctive style that intertwines humor with explorations of significant social and existential themes. A central element of his work is the fish, a recurring motif symbolizing the modern human condition. This fish, often disguised in bright colors and everyday settings, represents humanity’s paradoxes: illusory freedom, monotonous routines, and a lack of true evolution. While visually playful, Sangalli’s art engages with critical topics such as overpopulation, boundaries, environmental issues, and the daily concerns that shape our lives. Drawing inspiration from historical and media-driven events—ranging from the moon landing to iconic news stories of the 20th and 21st centuries—Sangalli reinterprets these narratives through a pop-art lens. His vivid color palette, sharp lines, and carefully composed visuals captivate the viewer, while the layered meanings encourage deeper reflection. Titles play an integral role in his work, guiding the audience through the underlying concepts while preserving interpretive freedom.
